Mathematician Report Extra Credit: up to 10 points
This report MUST be typed and MUST have references. Students are to research a mathematician and answer the following 5 Questions. Each question needs to be numbered on the report.
1) Who is the mathematician?
2) When was he/she born?
3) Where (state, country) were they born and where did they study mathematics?
4) What did this person discover/invent in mathematics? (This answer requires more than 1 sentence)
5) Why was this discovery important to mathematics or society? (This answer requires the most thought and more than 2 sentences
One report can be completed for the remaining three advisories

Math HW 11/23/09 to Thanksgiving Weekend
I saw each class period twice this week and we studied surface area. There were two HW assignments due Monday - Wednesday and one due after this holiday weekend.
1) Page 536 (1-6) three dimensional shapes
2) Page 541 (6-11) surface area drawings
Weekend: 3) Page 541 (6-11) find surface area (of drawings)
We have one more week until the mid advisory. Remind students to work hard and complete their work.

English Test on Theme and Plot
Hello,
On Tuesday or Wednesday (depending on the day a student has my class), students will take a test. Students have been given a general test review to study. Please make sure students review the following literary terms:
- plot development
- theme
- onomatopoeia
- alliteration
- thesis statement
- simile
- metaphor
- Five paragraph essay format

This week we continued our Geometry unit and had three HW assignments:

Geometry Quiz and HW 11/9 to 11/13
On Friday November 13th students will have a quiz on the area and perimeter of shapes. Specific shapes include: squares, rectangles, parallelograms, trapezoids, and circles.
This week students had two Homework assignments in preparation for the quiz:
1) "Interesting Areas" handout from the back of Study Guide 10.4
2) Page 534 (1-11)
The students should get their quiz back next week. Ask them how they did and discuss their progress in 7th grade mathematics.
