Math Homework 10/26/09 to 10/29/09

Because of the short week we only had two assignments:
1) Page 754 (23-27) --> must graph first shape
2) Page 70 (1-8) --> must draw the shapes and show work (always)

The First Advisory ended on Thursday 10/29/09 so students need to complete any missing work by Monday 11/2/09. During the second Advisory make sure students focus on "learning" the math and not just completing the work.

Math Starts Unit 2: Geometry

This Monday students had their first unit test on Number Theory concepts. Their first assignment was to get their test results signed by a parent. They were also supposed to get help correcting the problems they missed on the test. These corrections need to include work for their new answer and an explanation why their new answer is correct.

Students also had two assignments to complete out of their textbooks:
1) Page 49 (8-24)
2) Page 518 (1-17)

PS. Students need to bring graph paper to class during the Geometry unit

The Outsiders

Parents,

Please double check with your child to ensure that they have gotten OR still have the book, The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton.  I have returned many lost library books to the DC Public Library, and I have found many purchased books lying around the school and in my Lost and Found with no way to identify the owner of the book. I have allowed students to borrow more than 40 books from my personal class set, with a contingency that they return the book at the end of our study or replace my book if they lose it.  Even students who borrowed books from me have misplaced the books I have loaned them! As we are coming to the end of our study of The Outsiders, it is imperative that students have the book in order to complete the character analysis/essay planned next week. I know, I know 7th grade is difficult and our children have the most difficult time keeping up with everything going on, but I want to make sure they have the best possible opportunity to succeed in English.

Have a next weekend, and have fun at the local library or bookstore!

Math Unit Test this Monday

This week we reviewed the concepts in the Number Theory unit. These concepts include: factors (GCF), multiples (LCM), prime factorization, and Integer operations. The students were to review their "accelerated math" questions (from the computer) and complete their Study Guide. The Study Guide can be used on the test on Monday and includes textbook questions:
Page 53 (21-26, 31-56)
Page 210 (13-16, 25-29)

Please help your student review and study for this important test this weekend.

Math HW from 10/5/09 to 10/9/09

This week students had three HW assignments and a quiz on integers. Their HW was:
1) Page 45 (12-24, 51)
2) Parent Signature on the Mid Advisory Grade print out
3) Page 46 (29-36, 45-50)

Please remind your student to write down the questions, show their work, and box their answer on their HW paper. This weekend's HW is to make up any missing assignments from this week.
Enjoy the three day weekend!

Recent Math Homework

This was a tough week because I was sick and out of School on Monday and Tuesday. Once I was back students learned how to subtract integers and completed two assignments. One was Page 36 (1-15) and the other was Page 36 (16-32, 65-66). I apologize to the students who have not received their books yet and have given them time in class to copy down the HW questions. The new books should be distributed soon.
